Discipled for Action
“We love because he first loved us.”
1 John 4:19
At Good Shepherd, love looks like action. There is no shortage of need in the world, and as a parish, we endeavor to care for as many as we encounter. Only in doing so do we become the light of the world Christ calls us to be.
Almighty and most merciful God, we remember before you all poor and neglected persons whom it would be easy for us to forget: the homeless and the destitute, the old and the sick, and all who have none to care for them. Help us to heal those who are broken in body or spirit, and to turn their sorrow into joy. Grant this, Father, for the love of your Son, who for our sake became poor, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. (The Book of Common Prayer, page 826)
Ongoing Ministries
First Sunday Food Pantry Collection
On the first Sunday of each month, we collect food and other non-perishable items for our local food pantry partner, Body and Soul. Check the calendar for this month's requested items.
Mobile Meal Ministry
Help prepare and deliver meals to the Nashville Women's Mission. We partner with St. Anselm’s, and volunteers can help with meal preparation, packaging, and delivery.
Winter Shelter Ministry
Nashville’s Winter Shelter program runs annually from November 1 through March 31 in coordination with Room In The Inn and nearly 200 local congregations and community partners. Good Shepherd partners with St. Bartholomew’s.
Outreach Breakfasts
Join us for fellowship, updates on community ministries, and opportunities to learn how you can get involved in outreach efforts both locally and beyond.
Coming this Winter & Spring
St. Luke's Community House Volunteer Day
Serve alongside fellow parishioners as we support the vital work of St. Luke's Community House.
Project C.U.R.E.
Help sort and prepare medical supplies being shipped to communities around the world in need of healthcare resources.
Healing Housing Laundry Basket Project
Help collect, pack, and deliver laundry baskets filled with household essentials for women served by Healing Housing in Brentwood. This project offers a meaningful way to support women as they move into safe and stable housing.
Each year, we send a group of volunteers to visit our sister parish, San José Obrero in Manta, Ecuador. While there, we offer support to their preschool program by building classrooms, providing supplies, and cooking breakfasts. We have also run medical clinics under the supervision of local doctors. These clinics provide eye and dental exams, oral hygiene products, vitamins, and medical examinations for over 350 women and children.
Good Shepherd is an official partner church with GraceWorks! We host nights to pack Fuel Bags every 3rd Wednesday of the month at 6 PM. These bags are filled with nutritious and easily prepared foods for children to eat on the weekends when they are away from access to their school’s lunch program. Fuel Bags currently provides food for more than 450 children each week.
If you cannot attend a Pack Night, we also need volunteers for our Fuel Bags setup crew! Setup begins at 9 AM on a Pack Night.
Our Youth Group serves at Mountain T.O.P. on the Cumberland Plateau each summer tackling local maintenance and building projects, and volunteering with their kids' camp. We are also looking for more youth and adult chaperones to join on this annual mission!
Outreach Wagon: Every month, we collect for a new local outreach program! If you have ideas for the next drive, email Deacon Rebecca.
Soul Care is a lay-led pastoral care ministry, facilitated by Father Fred. This includes our Lay Eucharistic Visitors, Meal Ministry, Welcome Ministry, and Flower Ministry. Within these roles, we provide companionship, encouragement, support, and educational events on holistic health.
